Add an Event

Tips on adding events...

View Details 1 and 2 (Event Links)

  • EVENT LINK: Link to Your Own Page (from the “View Details” button on a calendar listing) by adding a link to the ‘Event Link’ field.

  • MORE INFO: If you do not choose to add your external link to the ‘Event Link’ button, you could add it here instead, or you can use this field for a different external link (e.g. to an information or research page). This link will then appear in an auto-generated page hosted right here on Switchboard.
  • Important to help people find your event when they use a search box
  • Add keywords, separated by commas.
  • Ensure that your keywords are accurately associated with your event, (otherwise search systems can become distorted, and your event will pop up as an irrelevant search result)
An example of this distortion in another context:
Google applies penalties against websites when keywords are added that do not matchclosely enough to their overall content and
purpose of the website.
  • Add a partial description (a few lines) into the Exerpt box. Don’t worry too much about length as the system will truncate if it’s too long.
  • This shows up in various places when an event appears in different parts of the site.
  • If you wish, you can simply copy and paste a few lines from the description, or write something bespoke

Tip: add keywords that will help your event to be found in search

  • This is only needed if you have an event you’d like to see repeated
  • You can exclude dates from the recurring schedule

The note appears next to the event time on the vent page. Keep to just a few words (between 1 and 5 recommended) to avoid negatively affecting the display on the event page
